The current data on the effect of immunotherapy on fertility (male or female) are incomplete. It depends on:
- The type of immunotherapy;
- The condition on which the immunotherapy is used; if it is used for cancer, then there could be effect of the cancer on fertility itself;
- Whether there has been an previous or simultaneous chemotherapy and radiotherapy, both of which may have significant impact on fertility.
Some oncologist advise patients to avoid pregnancy during the immunotherapy and for a period afterwards, but it depends on individual oncologist.
